Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Kameron Kelly was able to earn a spot on an NFL roster after playing in the AAF during the league’s brief existence, but he may have squandered his opportunity with some bad decisions off the field.
Kelly was arrested early Friday morning at a Pittsburgh-area bar and charged with two misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, according to court documents obtained by Chris Hoffman of KDKA. Police were called to Mario’s South Side Saloon when Kelly refused to leave after he allegedly threatened an employee over the jukebox not playing the song he wanted. When police explained to Kelly that he was not allowed back inside, he tried to go in anyway.
Police say Kelly then became aggressive after the foot of a woman he was with, whom he referred to as “my girl,” was stepped on. He allegedly threatened an officer and resisted arrest during the dispute. Kelly was punched in the face multiple times by an officer who said he needed to “gain control,” and he was then arrested and treated at a hospital. Officers said Kelly continued to be disorderly while at the hospital.
Kelly went undrafted out of San Diego State in 2018. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys but was cut before the preseason began. Kelly then played for the San Diego Fleet in the AAF and caught the attention of the Steelers, and he earned a starting job in Pittsburgh before the team acquired Minkah Fitzpatrick.
