Why Myles Garrett is in danger of losing $1 million

Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett is fresh off winning the Defensive Player of the Year award, and had a year in which he set the NFL single-season record for sacks.

However, Garrett was absent from the start of the Browns’ offseason workouts, and he is now in line to lose out on $1 million, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“Garrett’s contract, a copy of which PFT has reviewed, includes a $1 million workout bonus for 2026,” Florio wrote. “To earn it, Garrett must participate in 84.375 percent of the offseason workout sessions, participate in all minicamps, participate in all OTA days, and timely report to training camp.”

Garrett is coming off an NFL-record 23-sack season, which broke the previous mark that was set by Michael Strahan. The Browns star is hoping to break the record again in 2026.

Although Garrett was absent for the beginning of the offseason workouts, new Browns head coach Todd Monken said he isn’t worried about it and insisted that Garrett will “be ready.”

"Myles will be ready. I'm not worried about it." Good, thorough answer here. https://t.co/mpmv2iM7Iq

Garrett’s name surfaced in trade rumors after the Browns restructured his deal, but Cleveland GM Andrew Berry made it clear the team has no plans to trade him, even calling the pass rusher a “career Brown.”

Last offseason, the Browns signed Garrett to a four-year, $160 million extension, so he is making an average of $40 million per season, so missing out on $1 million isn’t the end of the world.
