Stephen Ross: FedEx Field was almost like playing a home game

The Dolphins got their 2015 season underway with a road game against the Redskins and, from the looks of it, more than few Dolphins fans showed up to root for their team.

Over 76,000 were on hand at FedEx Field to see the season opener for both teams with the amount of aqua in the stands not trailing the burgundy and gold by much. Some estimates had the distribution at nearly half and half.

We legitimately had a 40/60 split. I couldn't believe how many Dolphins fans were there!! https://t.co/1wBxeToZhG

The amount of support the team had was not taken for granted by members of the franchise. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill called it “probably the best road showing I’ve seen.” Owner Stephen Ross went a step further, saying it was almost like playing at Sun Life Stadium.

“It was unbelievable,” Stephen Ross, said after the game via The Washington Post. “Wasn’t it amazing? I mean, you felt it was almost a home game. At least on our side of the ball, it was great seeing all the green there.”

The Redskins are as passionate a fan base as there is in the NFL so to see their stadium taken over with fans of the opposing team is a bit surprising, especially for the first game of the new season. The Dolphins, on the other hand, have been a trendy pick to be much improved this season thanks to Tannehill’s progression, the signing of Ndamukong Suh, and a revamped group of weapons for Tannehill to utilize.

Dolphins fans certainly have a reason for optimism this season and it showed by their turnout on Sunday. Miami re-payed them by defeated Washington by a final score of 17-10, giving those who showed up something to be happy about as they exited the stadium.
