Super Bowl programs set off alarms at Phoenix airport
Some people fortunate enough to attend Super Bowl XLIX were in for a bit of a surprise at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport if they purchased one of the official programs and had it stored in their luggage for the trip home.
The cover of the programs, while impressive in appearance, contained a hologram that didn’t agree with airport security systems. To be specific, the holograms set off alarms.
“It’s created total chaos for us, and this was already what they’re telling us is our busiest day ever,” a US Airways employee told the Wall Street Journal.
As a result, passengers were urged to transport the programs in carry-on luggage.
For a Super Bowl that featured an improbable juggling catch by Jermaine Kearse, a breakout performance by Chris Matthews, and a play call that will be talked about for years to come, it seems only fitting the souvenir programs would become a topic of discussion as well.
