Terrell Owens wants Cowboys to give him another shot
Terrell Owens has not given up on the possibility of an NFL comeback, and he believes one of his former teams might be able to use his help.
During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” Monday, Owens said he told his agent to reach out to the Dallas Cowboys and ask owner Jerry Jones to give him another chance.
“We all know what happened when I was there,” Owens told Eisen. “There were some things said that may have fractured the relationship between myself and (Jason) Witten and (Tony) Romo. Time has passed. Hopefully they know I have moved on from that, and hopefully they have.”
The Cowboys are 2-0 but facing serious adversity, as they will be without Tony Romo and Dez Bryant for at least two months. But even if the team were to sign Owens and then struggle, T.O. insists he would not become a problem in the locker room.
“I’m not that same guy that I was years ago,” he said. “I know that throughout my career there are some things I shouldn’t have said. I think that comes with the maturation process. If there was an opportunity for me to go back, I wouldn’t want to ruffle those feathers.”
There’s virtually no chance the Cowboys or any other team will sign Owens, who is 41 and has not caught a pass in an NFL regular season game since 2010. Teams would almost certainly rather give this younger future Hall of Famer a chance before they signed T.O.
You can’t blame Owens for trying, but he is too old and has been out of football for too long. He is also still dealing with some serious drama in his personal life. It’s not going to happen.
