Randy Moss doesn’t rule out an NFL comeback

Randy Moss has not caught a pass in an NFL game since 2012, and he turned 38 in February. Moss has been working as an analyst for FOX Sports since he left the San Francisco 49ers, but has he ruled out playing football again?

No, he has not.

Before Sunday night’s preseason game between the Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams, Moss told FOX colleague Curt Menefee that he still has the “itch” to play in the NFL.

“I actually have not lost the itch,” Moss said, via Chris Wesseling of NFL.com. “I’ve been working out with a few guys over the offseason. I have been retired for the last two years, but you never know, Curt. But it’s the love of the game that I still have inside of me.”

Moss caught just 28 passes for 434 yards and three touchdowns with the Niners in 2012. He’s now three years older and what feels like a lifetime removed from the game. We wouldn’t doubt if Moss put up better numbers than that with a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers, but there’s no question his skills would be nowhere near what they used to be.

“Hey, I don’t know. The sky’s the limit for me, Curt,” Moss said when Menefee joked about his commitment to FOX. “So we’ll just have to wait and see.”

It’s intriguing to think about Moss playing somewhere like Green Bay in the wake of this brutal injury, but the chances of it happening are slim. Moss found little success after the New England Patriots traded him in 2010.
