The Houston Texans have added a former Pro Bowl player to their defense.

The Texans announced on Wednesday that they have signed veteran linebacker Devin White.

White, 26, was a first-round draft pick (No. 5 overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. He then went on to become a standout for the Tampa Bay defense, making an All-Pro team in 2020, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2021, and starting on the Buccaneers team that won Super Bowl LV.

The relationship between White and the Bucs seemed to sour last season. He first publicly requested a trade before the 2023 season began. When that request was not granted, White eventually quit on the team by refusing to suit up for a late-season game.

White signed a 1-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason, but he was unable to earn a significant role with the team. He was a healthy scratch multiple times before the Eagles cut him earlier this month.

The Texans have allowed just 277.0 yards per game through the first seven weeks of the season. White has the potential to become a solid depth piece in Houston if he is healthy, but his days of playing at a Pro Bowl level are probably behind him.
