With John Harbaugh finalizing a deal to become the New York Giants head coach, the ripple effect across the NFL figures to be taking place.
There are still eight head coach vacancies, and Harbaugh had also been tied to the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans jobs, meaning they have to pivot elsewhere.
The Titans have several interviews coming up in the next few days, with former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy as one of them, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
Former Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh are interviewing on Sunday, with McCarthy set to interview on Saturday.
In December, McCarthy was viewed as an “early front-runner” for the Titans job, but with Harbaugh off the board, he could emerge as a favorite once again, depending on how the interview goes.
The Titans also interviewed ex-Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, recently-fired Falcons coach Raheem Morris, and plenty of others.
McCarthy has 18 years as an NFL head coach and compiled a 174-112-2 record between his time with the Cowboys and Green Bay Packers. This includes 12 playoff appearances with an 11-11 postseason record and a Super Bowl title, which came with Green Bay.
Following the 2024 season, the Cowboys and McCarthy were not able to come to an agreement on an extension, and Brian Schottenheimer was later hired as Dallas’ new coach.
McCarthy has been expected to return to coaching at some point, so perhaps this is the year he lands a job.
