Tom Brady had the highest praise for Baker Mayfield’s unreal stiff-arm throw
Tom Brady knows a thing or two about incredible quarterback plays. The NFL MVP-turned-announcer saw one of them on Sunday courtesy of Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers took on the San Francisco 49ers in a Week 10 clash at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The Buccaneers trailed the Niners 20-17 with under two minutes left in the contest.
Facing 4th-and-7 from their own 37, Mayfield and the Buccaneers needed a first down to keep their hopes alive. Once 49ers lineman Nick Bosa caught ahold of Mayfield’s left arm, the Buccaneers looked like they were about to turn it over on downs. But Mayfield stiff-armed the All-Pro edge rusher and somehow made a pass to Rachaad White for a first down (video here).
Both Brady and broadcast partner Kevin Burkhardt could not believe the play Mayfield had just made. Brady gave Mayfield the highest praise, calling the feat one of the greatest he’s ever witnessed from a QB.
Burkhardt: “That’s one of the best plays I’ve seen all year.
Brady: “That’s one of the best plays I’ve ever seen a quarterback make.”

The compliment must have been sincere given that Brady and Mayfield were publicly beefing not too long ago.
Despite making the play of the game, Mayfield was thoroughly outplayed by his 49ers counterpart Brock Purdy for most of the night. Mayfield went 18/29 for 116 yards with 1 touchdown, while Purdy finished 25/36 for 353 yards with 2 touchdowns.
Mayfield’s clutch first down conversion led to a game-tying field goal for the Buccaneers. But it wasn’t enough as the 49ers sank a game-winning field goal to take a 23-20 lead as time expired.
