Tom Brady weighs in on Julian Edelman’s season-ending injury

Tom Brady

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady admitted there will be an adjustment period with wide receiver Julian Edelman out for the season.

In speaking about Edelman’s season-ending ACL injury, Brady frequently cited trust, and mentioned Danny Amendola as a worthy alternative.

“I’ve had that [trust] with Danny, and Danny’s been such a great player for us,” Brady told WEEI’s Kirk and Callahan, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Brady also said that the entire offense will have to work harder to cover for the injured Edelman.

“All the backs and tight ends, we’re going to have to pick up the slack. The production has got to come from a different place,” Brady said. “I know Jules usually gets a lot of looks, makes a lot of catches for us. It’s got to be distributed somewhere else. Injuries are tough, they’re always a part of the game. We just have to try to overcome it.”

Edelman, the Patriots’ leading receiver, tore his ACL on Friday and will miss the season. It’s a blow, but the Patriots can recover from it if they do, indeed, get good enough performances from the rest of their offense.
