FOX Sports is in a somewhat awkward spot on Tuesday after Tom Brady failed to land an Emmy nomination, but one of their other broadcasters did.

Brady was not among the nominees for the Outstanding Sports Personality, Sports Event Analyst category for May’s Sports Emmy Awards. Fellow FOX commentator Greg Olsen was, however, for the fourth consecutive year.

Honored to be nominated for my 4th consecutive @TheEmmys 🏆🏆

Olsen actually won the honor last season, just before FOX bumped him down from the No. 1 team to No. 2 in order to accommodate Brady. That move was quite controversial given the praise Olsen had won as FOX’s top NFL analyst, both from critics and among the public. FOX handed Brady a 10-year, $375 million contract to become their top NFL analyst, and with that sort of money on the table, Olsen’s days were numbered.

FOX has made its decision and is standing by it, but this has to be awkward for them. While Olsen continues to garner praise for his work, reviews for Brady were decidedly more mixed in his first season in the booth. He was prone to mistakes at times, and in general, many felt that Olsen provided better insight.

Further complicating the situation is Brady’s new role as minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, in which he is taking on significant responsibilities in what could be seen as a conflict of interest. The NFL continues to maintain there are no problems on that front.

Brady does not need an Emmy nomination to validate himself and his work. However, it still is not a great look for his network that the guy they demoted to bring him in keeps getting the best reviews.
