Tom Brady: Patriots players paid zero attention to videotaping drama

Tom Brady

The New England Patriots dealt with what could have been a distraction leading up to their game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, but Tom Brady insists it never became an issue.

Brady was asked about the Patriots’ videotaping incident during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Morning Show” Monday, and he said there was never a time when it impacted the team’s preparation.

“I don’t think any player gave it one second of thought. You just move on, man,” Brady said. “There’s a lot of distractions out there and if you lose focus on your job, that is really a waste of your time. There’s a lot of people out there, they can create distractions for us, but we just want to go out there and focus on what we can do and what our job is and try and go out there and play the best we possibly can.”

New England won the game 34-13, though they got off to a slow start. It’s probably hard to tell if the videotaping talk was actually a distraction when they had the luxury of facing the worst team in the NFL, but the Patriots certainly avoided disaster.

Whatever the Patriots did last week will have to continue going forward, as the story is not going to just disappear. Some fans were outraged at the video that was released on Sunday showing what a Patriots videographer recorded, and there have been reports that significant disciplinary action could be forthcoming.
