A new update has emerged regarding the likelihood of Tony Romo getting his analyst job back at CBS.
The industry consensus is that Romo has worked his last game for CBS, according to John Ourand of Puck. The widespread expectation is that CBS will use the morals clause in Romo’s contract to seek a clean break in light of his OWI arrest.
Particularly damaging for Romo is the body cam footage that emerged of his arrest. That, it seems, was the last straw when it came to Romo being placed on leave by the network, with his long-term future now in serious jeopardy.
While Romo’s arrest and the aftermath is certainly a factor in his potential dismissal, the reality is that CBS seems to have been looking for a way out of his contract for a while. There have been growing complaints about his on-air performance, but his now-infamous 10-year, $180 million contract with CBS left the network with no real option but to stay the course. That has changed now with Romo’s arrest.
Momentum has been growing against Romo for some time now regarding his future. CBS has yet to publicly comment beyond the announcement that he has been placed on leave, but the writing may already be on the wall.
