Tony Romo turned 35 this week, which for many was a reminder that he is running out of time to capture the elusive Super Bowl championship ring. But have no fear, Dallas Cowboys fans — next season is apparently your year.
Earlier this month, Romo was presented with the Nancy Lieberman Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of the work he has done with children and charitable organizations for young people. Romo gave a great 10-minute speech about those who have helped him and his commitment to helping others, and he closed things out with a bold prediction.
“This award is very meaningful to me, mostly because I get to be associated with this and to be associated with Nancy,” Romo said, as noted by Louis DeLuca of The Dallas Morning News. “It’s incredible and I really appreciate you, and we’re going to win a Super Bowl next year. Thank you.”
If it matters, Romo didn’t even say the Cowboys are going to “try” to win a Super Bowl. He must really be taking that deal he made with Jahlil Okafor seriously.
Romo’s window is closing, but the Cowboys were shockingly successful last season. They even won a playoff game and could have reached the NFC Championship Game if not for this incredibly controversial call.
One of the main reasons the Cowboys exceeded expectations was their commitment to the run. Now that DeMarco Murray has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, that run game might not be as effective. Unless, of course, a certain veteran running back gets his wish. I’m sure Romo is rooting for it.
