Travis Kelce addresses his heated sideline spat with Andy Reid

Travis Kelce is not harboring any ill feelings toward Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid after their very public sideline spat.

Last week, NBC cameras captured a testy sideline moment between Reid and Kelce during the Chiefs’ Sunday night game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. With the threat of a 0-3 start hanging over Kansas City, tempers flared after a lackluster Chiefs drive resulted in a missed field goal midway through the second quarter.

Reid and Kelce exchanged words before the veteran coach gave his star tight end a light body bump. Kelce addressed the moment on Friday, noting that it was Reid’s way of challenging his players to “be at their best.”

“I love that guy, man. There’s nothing outside of this building that’s going to make me feel any different way,” Kelce said, via The Athletic’s Jesse Newell. “And we know exactly each other’s intentions. I think what coach Reid does best is he challenges guys to be at their best, and I love that about him. It definitely helped me take my game to another level.”

It was not the first time the two butted heads on the sidelines. Kelce similarly got physical with Reid during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers two seasons ago.

Kelce did not have the best game in the Week 3 matchup against the Giants. He caught four of his seven targets for 26 yards. However, the Chiefs still managed to pull off the 22-9 win, largely due to a lackluster performance from Giants quarterback Russell Wilson that had fans chanting for him to be replaced by Jaxson Dart before halftime.
