San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke may be in for a soft landing if he loses his current job.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, Baalke would likely land in Denver under John Elway should the 49ers part ways with him.
Baalke and Elway have a strong relationship, and the Niners general manager has a good reputation throughout the league as a college talent evaluator, making him a natural choice for a spot in a team’s personnel department.
Baalke has been the 49ers’ GM since 2011, a period which saw him at the helm of three great teams, one of which made a Super Bowl appearance. Since then, the roster has collapsed, the team is just 6-24 since the start of 2015, and he has been unable to turn things around, which will likely cost him his job.
