Trent Williams reportedly had ‘positive’ talk with Redskins coach Ron Rivera
Trent Williams said several months ago that he will never play for the Washington Redskins again, but he may be starting to feel differently now that the team is under new leadership.
Williams has been in contact with new Washington head coach Ron Rivera, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was told the two had a “positive conversation” recently. With both Jay Gruden and former Redskins president Bruce Allen now out of the picture, Williams could be open to playing for Washington in 2020.
There is a long way to go and plenty of issues to sort out. But the 2020 #Redskins have Trent Williams in their plans, and a fresh start (without Bruce Allen) could mean Williams is open to continuing with the only organization he’s played for. https://t.co/jclMBbcE7t

Williams never showed up for work in 2019. The All-Pro left tackle says Washington’s team doctors misdiagnosed a medical condition he was dealing with for several years, and the way they handled the situation could have cost him his life. Williams says he discovered a growth on his head in 2013 and asked Washington’s medical staff to remove it several times, but he was repeatedly told it was benign. In January 2019, Williams had a biopsy of the growth and was informed it was cancerous. Doctors told Williams the cancer cells were just weeks from penetrating his brain.
All of the allegations Williams has made against Washington are incredibly troubling, and he is not the only player who has accused the team of mishandling a medical situation. However, a lot of changes have been made with the team this offseason, so it’s possible the 31-year-old is open to a fresh start under Rivera.
