Trent Williams traded to 49ers
It’s finally happened — the Washington Redskins are parting ways with Trent Williams.
As first reported by Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, the Redskins have traded Williams to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a pair of draft picks.
Finally: The #Redskins have agreed to terms on a trade of LT Trent Williams to the #49ers, per me, @TomPelissero & @MikeGarafolo. It took until Day 3 of the Draft, but Washington gets it done, and SF gets help at a position of need. It’s for a 5th this year and 3rd next year.

Rapoport noted that the Redskins had a similar deal in place with the Minnesota Vikings, but Williams nixed it. This one is approved, as Williams is known to be close with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.
Williams also has no extension in place with San Francisco.
One big piece of this: Had the #Vikings done the deal with Trent Williams, he would’ve gotten an extension. With the #49ers, no extension is included in the deal and none is imminent.

For the 49ers, Williams could replace Joe Staley, who is rumored to be strongly considering retirement. From Washington’s perspective, they’ve finally put an end to a relationship that has been publicly toxic for some time now.
