Shedeur Sanders has been holding a draft party in Colorado that has lasted a lot longer than anyone expected it to, and the bizarre two-day stretch even featured a prank phone call.
Sanders chose not to go into hiding after he fell out of the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night. The quarterback simply continued the draft festivities during the second and third round on Friday, including a live stream on Twitch.
At one point during that stream, Sanders received a phone call that many people believed was “the call.” The person on the phone — which had a number that was supposedly only given out to NFL teams — claimed to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis.
The caller told Sanders it has “been a long wait” but that the Saints were going to “take you with our next pick right here, man.” Sanders responded, “Yes sir, let’s be legendary.” The person claiming to be Loomis then strangely said, “Alright, but you’re gonna have to wait a little bit longer now. Sorry about that.”
You can see the exchange at around the 1:05 mark:

Prank caller acted like New Orleans Saints GM Micky Loomis and told Shedeur Sanders they were gonna take him until his family found out it was one big troll

Sanders was understandably confused after the call. He looked around and asked “what does that mean?” It quickly became clear that Sanders had been pranked as his father Deion and others sat and watched the Saints select quarterback Tyler Shough with the 40th overall pick.
That is not the first time a player has been pranked on draft day. Some players have even thought they were pranked only to find out that the big phone call was real.
What makes the Sanders situation so unique is the high-profile nature of it all. The prank call in this instance was streamed live on a social media platform. In some ways, this is the type of attention that teams that have passed on Sanders are probably trying to avoid.
