Vontaze Burfict reportedly fined $75,000 for stepping on LeGarrette Blount
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has reportedly been fined $75,000 for allegedly stomping on an opponent Sunday.
According to Pro Football Talk, the league made it clear in its letter to Burfict that the fine is for stepping on New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount — not for the low hit Burfict put on tight end Martellus Bennett.
The Bengals reportedly believe that there is no evidence Burfict actually stepped on Blount, though the video makes it clear Blount angrily reacted to something Burfict did while the running back was facing the other way. You can watch the clip here.
While dirty, Burfict’s diving at Bennett’s knee was not technically an illegal play.
Burfict was suspended for the first three games of the season for trying to take Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown’s head off during the playoffs last year. He has a reputation for being one of the dirtiest players in the league and has now been fined a total of $275,000 for nine on-field incidents.
