Justin Rose and Bryson DeChambeau have heated exchange at Ryder Cup

Bryson DeChambeau arguing at the Ryder Cup

Justin Rose and Bryson DeChambeau got into an exchange during Saturday’s Ryder Cup action after Rose was bothered by DeChambeau’s caddie causing a distraction.

Rose and Tommy Fleetwood were competing against DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler during four-balls at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. on Saturday. Rose was lining up a putt on the 15th, but paused to ask DeChambeau’s caddie, Gregory Bodine, to move away from his line.

Bodine complied, but after DeChambeau sank a birdie, he confronted Rose about the incident as the group headed for the 16th. The exchange continued all the way up the hill and grew to involve Ted Scott, Scheffler’s caddie, who had an animated exchange with European vice-captain Francesco Molinari.

On the 16th, Justin Rose asked Scheffler/DeChambeau caddie to step back from his eyeline before sinking his putt.

DeChambeau replied to save the hole, but words were exchanged as tensions boiled over. #RyderCup #DeChambeau pic.twitter.com/gVPLYvmksJ

Ian Finnis, Fleetwood’s caddie, finally defused things with DeChambeau and Bodine, and the match ultimately concluded without any further incident.

Caddie arguments are not necessarily anything new at the Ryder Cup, and we have seen them get even more heated than this one. Frankly, many felt that this incident spiced up what has otherwise been a very uneventful Ryder Cup that has been dominated by the Europeans.

Rose and Fleetwood went on to win the match 3&2, moving Team Europe closer to an inevitable victory.
