Luke Donald had incredible 102-hole bogey-free streak in Dubai

Luke Donald may not have won the Dubai World Championship this weekend, but he accomplished something that is well worth our attention.

Donald finished tied for third behind Justin Rose and tournament winner Rory McIlroy, but he extended his streak of bogey-free golf in Dubai to 102 straight holes.

Donald’s incredible streak began on the eighth hole of last year’s second round and extended until the third hole of Sunday’s final round this year. His streak included 69 pars and 33 birdies, per Golf Channel.

“It’s a statistic of which I’m very proud,” Donald told reporters after Saturday’s third round, at which point his streak had hit 100 holes. “I think my previous longest run would probably be about 40 or 50 holes, so that puts it in perspective.”

Golf Channel says that the last time a player finished a 72-hole PGA Tour tournament without a bogey was Lee Trevino at the Zurich Classic in 1974. Sadly, Donald was unable to make a run at tying Trevino.

Donald entered Sunday’s final round tied with McIlroy, but he fell behind by three strokes after another bogey on the 12th hole. He never challenged after that. Donald shot a 71, which was his highest score of the week, and ended up tied with Charl Schwartzel for third.

“All runs come to an end,” Donald said after the tournament.

His was one heck of a run.
