Wyndham Clark on Sunday offered a reaction to his ban from Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa. after he was banned indefinitely for damaging the club’s locker rooms.

Clark smashed in a few lockers at the club after narrowly missing the cut at the U.S. Open. Despite issuing an apology, the club still opted to impose an indefinite ban, and the former champion will have to fulfill a series of conditions in order to have his membership reinstated.

Clark spoke about the punishment after concluding his round at The Open on Sunday, and said he hopes to be able to play at Oakmont again.

“That’s up to them,” Clark said of potentially getting the ban lifted, via Mark Schlabach of ESPN. “I really don’t know. I would hope so. It’s a fantastic course and place, but that’s up to them. I did something awful, and I’m really sorry for it. Hopefully, they have it in their heart to forgive me, and maybe in the future I’ll be able to play there.”

Clark had issued an apology for his tantrum, but that was insufficient from Oakmont’s point of view. On Sunday, he said he would pay for damages and signaled an openness to fulfilling the other conditions as well.

The 31-year-old had a much better run at The Open than he did at the US Open. He carded a 6-under 65 in the final round Sunday, leaving him in a tie for fourth for the tournament.
