Ottawa Senators investigating harassment allegations involving teammates
The Ottawa Senators are investigating horrendous harassment allegations involving the significant others of two of their players.
On Tuesday, the Ottawa Citizen published a bombshell story about the allegations that the girlfriend of Mike Hoffman has been harassing the wife of Erik Karlsson online.
According to the story, the Karlssons filed for an application for a peace bond (similar to a restraining order), alleging that Monika Caryk sent them threatening and harassing messages. Caryk is the longtime girlfriend of Hammond, a 28-year-old forward with the Senators.
The application apparently accuses Caryk of:
“uttered numerous statements wishing my unborn child dead.”
“She also uttered that she wished I was dead and that someone should ‘take out’ my husband’s legs to ‘end his career.’
“Monika Caryk has posted over 1,000 negative and derogatory statements about me as a professional.”
Caryk is accused of opening social media accounts used to make comments and then deleting the accounts. One of the accounts in question accused Karlsson’s wife of popping pain pills during her pregnancy. The Karlssons first child was stillborn on March 19.
In a statement to the Ottawa Citzen, Hoffman denied that he or his girlfriend had anything to do with the alleged remarks.
The Senators also said they would be looking into the allegations about Caryk.
Karlsson is the team’s captain, so if one of the two players needs to be traded, it is highly likely to be Hoffman.
In a post on Twitter, Marlee Hammond, the wife of former Senators goalie Andrew Hammond, called the allegations “unsurprising.”
oh man if you only knew how unsurprising this actually is. horrible just horrible. and the worst part of all of this is how @MelindaCurrey just wanted to keep this private because she’s THAT nice of a person even when a person can be this cruel to her. https://t.co/L3UEmuIpDO
