Conor McGregor reportedly settles lawsuit over smashing fan’s cellphone
Conor McGregor has dealt with a number of legal issues in recent months, and the former UFC champion has reportedly settled at least one of them.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the man who was suing McGregor for allegedly smashing his cellphone outside a hotel in Miami Beach last month has dropped his suit. The fan, 22-year-old Ahmed Abdirzak, had been suing McGregor for battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He was seeking more than $15,000, and a settlement has likely been reached.
Abdirzak claimed he tried to take a photo with McGregor, who became enraged and smacked the phone out of his hand before stomping on it repeatedly. McGregor is still facing charges of felony strong-armed robbery and felony criminal mischief from the incident. He is due to appear in court later this week.
McGregor’s attorney tried to downplay the fan altercation, though he did not deny that it took place. A video from TMZ appeared to show the portion of the incident where McGregor stomped on the phone.
In addition to the charges he is facing from the fan altercation, McGregor is reportedly being investigated in Ireland for a potentially far more serious crime.
