Sydney McLaughlin chooses to sign with Kentucky

Sydney McLaughlin

Olympic track and field sensation Sydney McLaughlin revealed on Monday night where she will be attending college.

The 17-year-old Olympian will be attending Kentucky, she announced Monday. McLaughlin was deciding between Kentucky and USC, which was the only other school where she went on an official visit.

“That’s just where I felt more comfortable,” McLaughlin said via NJ.com. “USC and Kentucky are both great schools, but for me and what I want to do I just felt that Kentucky was a better fit. I connected more with the people there.”

McLaughlin currently attends and competes for Union Catholic High School in New Jersey. She is the national high school record holder in the 400 m hurdles and placed third in the event at the US Olympics trials, which enabled her to represent the country at the Summer Games in Rio. She became the youngest athlete to compete at the Olympics for the US track and field team since ’72.

McLaughlin will sign her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.
