On Saturday, Monica Puig became the first athlete representing Puerto Rico to win an Olympic gold medal and the first woman participating on behalf her country to win an Olympic medal of any kind. Among those to watch her history making victory was Yasiel Puig, who was cheering as loud as anyone.
Puig won her match against Germany’s Angelique Kerber in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, and 6-1. She entered the match ranked No. 34 in the world while Kerber was No. 2 behind Serena Williams. Needless to say, it was a pretty big upset and Yasiel Puig acted accordingly. Thankfully, he provided video to prove it.

It’s a safe bet there were reactions like Yasiel Puig’s all over Puerto Rico on Saturday and Monica Puig will surely receive a hero’s welcome upon her arrival back home.
