Doc Brown’s NFL Picks Against the Spread: Week 5

OK, so I’m back and blogging again, which I hope is something about which we’re mutually excited. But as if getting hammered with emergency surgery on Monday night wasn’t enough, for some reason my database had a glitch and all my posts from the 26th-present were wiped out. That’s just a shame. If you’re wondering what makes it such a shame aside from all my work and your comments having gone to waste, it’s that I have no proof that the picks went 3-0 last weekend! But I did, and with that rally we’re now 7-5 on the season, which is hardly something to ignore. So without further ado, it’s Doc Brown’s NFL Picks brought to you by Betus.com which has you covered for all your football betting needs.

On with the picks.

Texans +3.5 vs. Colts – I’ve been saying since they had to move around and play on the road to begin the season, they would finally score their first win when they got home — regardless of opponent. I still feel the same way. They are a much better team at home than on the road and I expect them to prove it. The Texans’ passing offense came to life last week and the Colts are so bad on the ground without Bob Sanders that they can run it if they need to as well. I expect a Houston home win and think the 3.5 is a nice bonus.

Giants -7.5 vs. Seahawks – Both teams are coming off byes, so they each should be well-rested and well-prepared. Even though the Seahawks are getting two of their top receivers back, it will take a week or so before they all gel. Until that point, I like the Giants who still pulled off a week 3 win despite sleepwalking the whole game against the Bengals. They’re a strong team.

Saints -3.5 vs. Vikings – I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that any game Drew Brees is playing and quarterbacking you’re OK putting confidence in. Regardless of who his receivers are, he finds the open man and puts the ball in such good places it’s tough for anyone to drop. As a bonus, the Saints running game showed signs of life last week. I like what I’ve seen.
