NFL Week 9 expert picks against the spread – Doc’s locks
Doc had a decent Week 8 showing going 7-8 against the spread, but the lock failed and so did some of the other games he liked. That’s OK, because Doc Brown is going to make a comeback in Week 9 and get that lock right for you.
The picks for Week 9 are below:
(ATS = Against the Spread, SU = Straight Up)
Doc Brown obviously likes the Cardinals because he has them with the points and straight up. They have a lot of the intangible things going, such as success in the turnover battle and special teams. That seems to make a big difference in many of their games. Their defense was all up in Nick Foles’ grill last week, so they should be able to do the same whether they face Tony Romo or Brandon Weeden. Weeden for a whole game is about as effective as Romo playing with half a back, so that should add up to a win for Arizona.
Doc has been fairly heavy on underdogs all season and using that to success, but this week is different. Doc went with many favorites when he was in doubt.
A few other games Doc wants to mention include Cleveland, KC and the Giants. Tampa Bay is a pretty brutal team, while the Browns are actually pretty good. With the exception of their stinker against the Jags, they’ve been a monster against the spread. They completely dominated the Raiders last week for the cover and should do the same to the crappy Bucs.
The Chiefs have also been very good against the spread this season. The Jets are terrible and a switch to Mike Vick at quarterback should provide a slight boost over Geno Smith, but the puppy master is still pretty bad. He struggles to move that offense and still commits way too many turnovers. Vick is not the answer. Asking the Chiefs to cover a 9.5-point spread is a lot, but they’re up for it.
Lastly, both Doc and Del like the Giants on Monday night. The Giants are coming off a bye week, will be at home on primetime and they might be able to catch the Colts off guard. Indy is a much different team on the road and outdoors. The Colts are still really good, but the Giants might catch them.
