Watch: Alyssa Naeher makes save of the tournament on penalty kick

Alyssa Naeher save

Alyssa Naeher made the save of the World Cup for the US women’s team to preserve a 2-1 lead against England in the semifinals.

England had a penalty kick after Ellen White was taken down by Becky Sauerbrunn in the box in the 79th minute.

England was given a penalty shot that was attempted by Steph Houghton. She went low and Naeher made the save.

That’s all the US needed as England had a player sent off a few minutes later and the US held on to win 2-1 and advance to the final.

US coach Jill Ellis says she told Naeher after the match, “that was your shining moment, but we’ve got one more game.”
