Fabian Johnson suffers apparent hamstring injury
US midfielder Fabian Johnson suffered what looked like a hamstring injury in the first half against Belgium on Tuesday. Johnson was trying to save a ball from going out of bounds when he came up a bit lame. He later went down grabbing the back of his leg and was removed from the game.
Johnson is one of the US’s better offensive midfielders. His speed is an important part of Team USA’s offensive approach. With Jozy Altidore viewed as an “emergency” substitute against Belgium, the US is working with a serious shortage of offensive talent.
Belgium dominated time of possession early on against the US, and you’d have to think losing Johnson would create even more issues. Johnson was replaced by the inexperienced 20-year-old DeAndre Yedlin.
