United States midfielder Jermaine Jones, who was one of the heroes during a draw against Portugal last Sunday, had a decent scoring chance taken away from him by an official on Thursday.
During the first half of Team USA’s crucial match against Germany, Jones was cutting across the middle to put himself in position for a cross from Fabian Johnson when he ran directly into a referee. The ref stood his ground, but Jones went down like a sack of potatoes. There were no German players near Jones, so Germany can credit the official with an assist.
