For someone who was born in Germany and spent most of his life playing and coaching overseas, US men’s soccer coach Jurgen Klinsmann sure seems to understand a lot about American culture. For example, he understands the need to allow his players to climb on top of their wives and girlfriends whenever they please.
Banning players from having sexual intercourse is more common among World Cup coaches than you would think. Mexico coach Miguel Herrera has already ordered his players to refrain from having sex during the tournament, while Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has banned acrobatic sexual positions. Earlier this week, Klinsmann told Fusion TV that his players are free to do what they please.
“I think we’re very casual in the way we approach things,” Klinsmann explained. “Families can come by pretty much anytime they want. They’ll be at the games. They’ll be at the hotels. We’ll have barbecues together.
“I think every nation is different there. I played in different countries where you didn’t see your girlfriend or wife for two months. Every team and every country handles that differently based on their culture.”
