Cameron Norrie was forced to field an incredibly strange question from a journalist after advancing at Wimbledon on Friday.
Norrie defeated Mattia Bellucci in straight sets Friday to make it to the Round of 16 at Wimbledon, making him one of the last two British men standing in the tournament. During his media availability after the win, however, one reporter inexplicably asked Norrie if he was dating compatriot Emma Raducanu despite no links between the two.
“Apart from everyone here loving tennis, some of the gossip has been about who Emma Raducanu is dating. Can I ask if you’re dating her?” the reporter asked.
A baffled Norrie asked that the question be repeated, and looked uncomfortable as he responded.
“I’m not, no,” Norrie said. “You can ask her. I don’t know.”
The video of this, with the unabridged full question, is somehow worse. https://t.co/Lu8bCeC7W9 pic.twitter.com/dvrviixicO

Again, there have been no links between Norrie and Raducanu, the current British women’s No. 1. Raducanu lost to No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka on Friday.
One can hardly blame Norrie for being uncomfortable. He was expecting questions about his win, not that. He is hardly the only one to have to gracefully deal with awkward moments at a press conference, though.
Norrie is set to face Chile’s Nicolás Jarry in the Round of 16 on Sunday. His best Wimbledon finish came in 2022, when he reached the semifinals.
