Novak Djokovic expressed his desire to return to Wimbledon at least one more time following his straight-sets semifinal defeat to defending champion Jannik Sinner on Friday.
The 39-year-old Serbian, a seven-time Wimbledon winner, fell 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to the world No. 1 in a match that lasted two hours and 30 minutes, marking just the third completed Grand Slam match of his career in which he failed to break serve.
In his post-match news conference, Djokovic was candid about the lopsided result, describing it as a “good old blowout” and acknowledging that Sinner was simply a level better.
Despite the disappointment, he highlighted positive aspects of his run, including a grueling five-set quarterfinal victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime that he called one of his best recent performances.
“I would like to, at least one more time,” Djokovic said when asked about returning to the All England Club, via ESPN. “Let’s see.”
Djokovic emphasized enjoying the thrill of competition and feeling capable of playing at a top-five level when healthy, while noting the internal process of evaluating his future on a day-to-day basis.
“I would be sad, but hopefully it’s not my last match on the Centre Court,” he added. “I’m not planning to finish my Wimbledon career today. So I’m planning to come back definitely at least one more time, play on the Centre Court for sure.”
The loss comes as Djokovic continues his pursuit of a record 25th major title, with the US Open next on the horizon. He remains reflective about his achievements and the challenges posed by younger stars like Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
