These are frustrating times for New York Knicks fans. Carmelo Anthony is banged up and the team is not playing particularly well. There may or may not be a serious rift brewing between Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, and rumors of changes to come pop up all over the sports world almost every day. The Knicks have lost seven of their last eight and I doubt fans care what Baron Davis thinks about them booing the team. However, New York fans were recently offered some words of optimism from — wait for it — LeBron James.
“It takes time,’’ James said earlier this week according to the NY Post. “It’s never going to work right overnight, and we were the prime example of that. It took us time. We were 9-8 at one point, but it took us even longer after that to become a good team, to know each other, to learn each other, what works for each other, what don’t work. I think they’re going through the same thing right now but people want results now. That’s just the league and the world we leave in.’’
Just the man Knicks fans wanted to hear from. In a certain sense, LeBron is right. New teams need time to come together, especially when there are multiple superstars in the same lineup. That being said, it is no guarantee. The Heat seem to have figured it out, but that doesn’t mean the Knicks will. If Melo doesn’t start sharing the ball, he and Amar’e are going to have trouble coexisting. Trying to play defense was a big enough concern for New York. Trying to build chemistry could be too tall of a task to conquer.
