The Los Angeles Angels are not 100 percent sure at this point whether Shohei Ohtani will make his next start on Sunday.
Ohtani returned on Sunday to make his first start since June 6. His outing was brief — he threw 49 pitches over 2.1 innings and saw a major drop in velocity midway through his start. The drop led to concerns because of his elbow, but the Angels attributed the significant dip to other issues that were bothering Ohtani.
Ohtani did not undergo any testing, which is a good sign, and the team said the plan was for him to start again the following Sunday.
Now Angels manager Mike Scioscia says Ohtani’s next start depends on how his two bullpens go this week, first on Wednesday and then on Friday.
Mike Scioscia said Shohei Ohtani will have a light bullpen session on Weds and a more intense one on Friday. Those will confirm if he can pitch Sunday. #Angels

Though the date of his next start is now a little more uncertain, Ohtani was in the Angels’ lineup as the DH on Tuesday.
