Cardinals and Reds Fight, Clear Benches

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips said on Monday that he hated the Cardinals and called them bitches. Word must not have gotten to the Cards until Tuesday because when Phillips came up to bat in the bottom of the first, catcher Yadier Molina had some words. The two started to exchange words and benches rapidly cleared.

Managers Tony La Russa and Dusty Baker seemed to have words for each other and both wound up ejected. Chris Carpenter, who verbally fought with teammate Brendan Ryan on Monday, was in the middle of the fight between the squads. Reds third baseman Scott Rolen, who played for the Cardinals from 2002-2007, was the peacemaker, calming Carpenter and Molina at times.

There’s no way anyone can be surprised that the teams threw down. How could the Cardinals not respond after being called bitches by Phillips? Of course they had to, and obviously each manager defended his team. Here is the Cardinals and Reds fight video and here are some pictures:

Mike don't be an idiot- everything has ads these days, use your mute button
Also, bp didn't disrupt a game; jm did by talking shit as bp dug in.

Sports writer, I mean Hack Mark Sheldon / MLB.com used this tag-line:
Phillips' comments cause benches to clear | MLB.com: News
    this short headline:
Phillips' comments cause benches to clear
    this long headline:
Cards' Molina takes exception to Reds infielder's words (letting Molina off the hook, since bp did all the wrongdoing)
    and this lede:
CINCINNATI — Words of venom towards the Cardinals from Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips on Monday led to a benches-clearing incident between the two clubs on Tuesday.
all showing he likely blows the cards after games. Or that the hatred for everything Ohio is in all sports.

First, it's bench clearing, he should know that if he's gonna write sports.
Second, he didn't put the harsh words bp used (bitches, piss??? what a P-U-S-S-Y!)

He is so biased- he is no journalist, but some hack using copy to express opinions- kinda like a bunch of other fake-ass people- I hope you're at least not one of those, Mike.

This article at least isn't slanted and opinionated.
    Peace,
    Ethan

seriously man…he hit a player in the shin guards with a bat…and talked even MORE crap as well. After his initial insults this is the expected reaction and outcome.

You're a good team Reds, but act like children and you'll get spanked as such.

    SPORTSMANSHIP…

Ultimately the Cards will take the NL Central simply because the Reds have to rely on much younger pitching. The second half will wear on less experienced pitchers mentally and also physically. I feel that the Cardinals bullpen is much deeper as well. Both teams can hit, and each have a potential NL MVP at 1st base. What a great pennant race!

This is an awfully biased video by Reds anouncers. It’s interesting how someone can manipulate words/clips to incriminate others. I hope Cueto gets a long ban, his behavior was disgusting. Does he seriously feel threatened enough at a public event where no one really fights that he can justify kicking another player in the head?
