Huston Street maintains sense of humor despite season-ending knee surgery

Angels closer Huston Street is finished for the year after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday, but he’s trying his best to remain upbeat about the whole situation.

Street, who has been sidelined since early August, needed the procedure due to “persistent medial knee pain,” but is expected to be back in 2017, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

#Angels: Huston Street will have arthroscopic surgery tomorrow on right knee because of "persistent medial knee pain." Expected back in '17.

After coming out of surgery, Street sent out the following humorous tweet:

Just got out of surgery, still pretty loopy, but the doc said I should come back throwing 98, but it could have been 89

— Huston Street (@HustonStreet) August 24, 2016

It’s great to see the 33-year-old Street in a lighthearted mood despite enduring a season that was anything but. Street posted a career-worst 6.45 ERA and was rarely healthy in a 2016 campaign where he blew three saves in just 12 opportunities.

The two-time All-Star will return to a $9 million salary from the Angels in 2017 (plus a $10 million club option for 2018) and is obviously holding out hope that the surgery reinvents him as an Aroldis Chapman-type flamethrower on the mound.
