Derrick Rose expected to play again this season

Derrick Rose

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose underwent successful surgery on Friday to repair the torn medial meniscus in his right knee. His injury is not believed to be as serious as last season, when Rose tore his meniscus in November and did not return.

Bulls general manager Gar Forman told reporters on Friday that Rose will begin an “aggressive” rehab regimen on Saturday and could be back in 4-6 weeks. Even if Rose missed six weeks, he could still, in theory, return before the end of the regular season.

“We expect Derrick to be playing this season,” Forman said, per K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune.

While another significant injury won’t make Chhicago fans feel any better about Rose’s future, it is good news that the tear this time around was not as serious. The Bulls currently hold the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, so they could use Rose down the stretch and in the playoffs if all goes to plan.

As long as Rose doesn’t follow Bill Walton’s advice just yet, he could still contribute this year.
