The NBA’s most recognizable face has paid tribute to the late Jerry West.

West died on Wednesday morning at the age of 86. Shortly after the Los Angeles Clippers shared the news, James posted a tribute via X in which he called West a “mentor.”

“My mentor, My friend! Hopefully I continue to make you proud! You’re already missed!” James wrote.

West, who played all 14 seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the Lakers, had an impact on LeBron and countless other NBA stars. West’s mark on the Lakers is unrivaled, as he had a hand in seven championships with the team (one as a player and six as an executive).

Though West once slighted the Lakers over their LeBron signing, James clearly never held that against the legend.
