Mitch McGary suspended five games for violating NBA’s drug policy
As if enough hadn’t already gone wrong for Oklahoma City this offseason.
The NBA announced a five-game suspension for Thunder big man Mitch McGary on Thursday for failing the league’s drug policy, per Royce Young of ESPN. He will serve the ban at the beginning of the 2016-17 season.

The 24-year-old McGary has played sparingly for the Thunder since they selected him No. 21 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. He has appeared in just 52 games for them so far over two seasons, and his career averages currently sit at 4.4 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game in 10.7 minutes per game.
It’s worth noting that the Michigan product declared for the draft prematurely at the end of his sophomore season after testing positive for marijuana and being handed a one-year suspension by the NCAA. Hopefully McGary, who has some upside as an interior presence/screener and could be in line for a bigger role after the trade of Serge Ibaka and the departure of Kevin Durant shook up the Thunder frontcourt this summer, can get his act together soon.
