New fan video proves officials blew delay of game call to rob Lions

Ravens delay of game clock

A recently-discovered video proves that the officials in Sunday’s Baltimore Ravens-Detroit Lions game blew a delay of game penalty.

The Ravens were down 17-16 to the Lions with seven seconds left in the game. Lamar Jackson took the second-down snap and threw it away. However, the CBS telecast showed that the play clock hit zero for a few seconds before the ball was snapped (video here).

At the time, there was an argument that the play clock viewers on TV were seeing was different from the one the officials were watching in the stadium.

However, this video from YouTube user JamminJim420 definitively proves that the play clock in the stadium was at zero for a few seconds before the ball was snapped. If you look closely at the electronic board just above the first level of the stadium seats and to the right of the upright, you will see a play clock counting down. You can see it hit zero before the ball is snapped.

The Ravens should have been pushed back five yards, which would have put the field goal distance at 71 yards. Instead, nothing was called and Jackson threw the ball away. On the following play, Justin Tucker made his record kick to win the game 19-17.

That was a heck of a kick by Tucker, but it came thanks to some help from the officials.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. offers his thoughts on Shohei Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani hitting

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Shohei Ohtani are the two top candidates to win AL MVP this season. Vlad is nearing triple crown territory as he is tied for the AL home run lead and third in batting average, but seventh in RBIs. He still leads the AL in hits and slugging percentage too.

Ohtani is tied for second in MLB in home runs, fifth in OPS, and he also has 24 stolen bases. Oh yeah, let’s also not forget that Ohtani is 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 156 strikeouts in 130.1 innings as a pitcher this season.

Vlad Jr. spoke with Z101’s Hector Gomez and offered his opinion on Ohtani. He complimented the Los Angeles Angels star, saying Ohtani is otherworldly.

That seems like a fair description.

If ever there was a 5-tool player, it’s Ohtani. He can hit, run, and throw with the best in the league.

Now the question is: who will win MVP between them? One ESPN analyst offered his pick, though that might not reflect the consensus.

Patrick Mahomes has messages for Chiefs fans following consecutive losses

Patrick Mahomes Chiefs

Chiefs fans are in an unfamiliar position these days: the team has a losing record. Kansas City has become spoiled by its football team in recent years, especially since Patrick Mahomes took over at quarterback. The MVP has proven to be among the best quarterbacks in the league, often being able to score nearly at will. But his Chiefs have lost consecutive close games and are now 1-2.

Following Sunday’s Week 3 loss to the Chargers, Mahomes said that the adversity wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Then on Tuesday, Mahomes reiterated his focus. He said that he would keep working.

Those are better messages than the one delivered by Mahomes’ fiancee.

KC visits Philly in Week 4. The Eagles are 1-2 and did not look good on Monday night against Dallas. This should be a game where the Chiefs get things back on track.

Ronda Rousey, Travis Browne announce birth of baby daughter

Ronda Rousey Travis Browne

Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne on Monday announced the birth of their baby daughter.

Rousey shared photos on Instagram that show their baby’s arm/hand on her body and then on Travis’ body. Rousey’s caption also shared the baby girl’s name: La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne.

In case you are wondering about the girl’s name, Browne is from Hawaii and his father is a native Hawaiian. Browne’s middle name is Kuualiialoha.

Rousey, 34, has talked for a few years about her plans to start a family with Browne. She was pretty thrilled to announce her pregnancy earlier this year. And now their child has arrived.

This is Rousey’s first child and Browne’s third (he has two sons from a previous marriage).

Browne and Rousey have been together since 2015.

Jonathan Isaac articulates why he has not yet had COVID-19 vaccine

Jonathan Isaac

Jonathan Isaac is among the approximately 10 percent of NBA players who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Orlando Magic big man answered questions on Monday about why he has declined the vaccine. Isaac gave a thoughtful answer, sharing that he had COVID-19 already and that he feels he has natural immunity that gives him protection against the virus in the future. He also expressed that he feels individuals should be allowed to make choices about what medications they want to put in their bodies, free of bullying and ridicule.

In addition to Isaac, Washington Wizards star guard Bradley Beal shared that he has not been vaccinated because he already recovered from the illness as well.

Isaac, 23, was the No. 6 overall pick by the Magic in 2017. He averaged 11.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game two seasons ago before suffering a torn ACL that caused him to miss last season.

Isaac has shown that he is not afraid to think independently and go against public pressure. Last year, he was the only Magic member not to kneel for the national anthem and explained why.

New Lakers guard explains why he is nicknamed ‘Hillbilly Kobe’

Austin Reaves

After losing Alex Caruso to free agency this offseason, Los Angeles Lakers fans may have already found their next cult hero.

New Lakers guard Austin Reaves revealed to reporters on Tuesday that he is nicknamed “Hillbilly Kobe.”

“I’m from Arkansas in the middle of nowhere and I grew up on a farm, so it kind of fits,” explained Reaves, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

The 23-year-old Reaves just signed a standard multi-year contract with the Lakers after originally being one of their two-way players. He averaged 18.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game in college last season for the Oklahoma Sooners.

We have seen some truly legendary Kobe Bryant-themed nicknames before. But for Reaves to have one while actually playing for the Lakers might just take the cake. Just don’t confuse him with this other similarly-named player.

Tyronn Lue hints at big starting lineup change for Clippers next season

Tyronn Lue

The LA Clippers will have to make do without Kawhi Leonard next season, and head coach Tyronn Lue may be innovating a bit to accomplish that.

Lue hinted to reporters this week that he may be going with a fairly big change to the Clippers’ starting lineup next season. He said that his vision was to start Reggie Jackson, Eric Bledsoe, Paul George, Markieff Morris, and Ivica Zubac, per Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times.

The biggest news here is the inclusion of Bledsoe, whom the Clippers just acquired this summer. Terance Mann had started for the team after Leonard got injured and was a breakout star of last postseason. Morris is also an interesting one. He finished the playoffs as a starter, but Nicolas Batum was the starting 4 to begin the year and still made a handful of starts into the postseason. Finally, Zubac was the Clippers’ starting center throughout the playoffs, but it remains to be seen if he will hold onto the job once Serge Ibaka is fully healthy.

Leonard’s return date is completely up in the air right now, so expect Lue and the Clippers to go with whatever lineup will help them best compete until Leonard gets back.

Austin Rivers had awesome reaction to Lakers roster move

Austin Rivers

Austin Rivers has been traded a total of five times in his NBA career, and there was a brief moment this week where the veteran guard thought he was on the move again.

The Los Angeles Lakers signed undrafted rookie guard Austin Reaves to a contract on Monday. When Rivers saw Shams Charania of The Athletic report the news, he had to do a double-take. Rivers explained in a funny Instagram comment that he thought he read his own name and “was going to have to pack again.”

You can’t blame Rivers for automatically thinking he had been traded. He’s not even 30 yet and has already played for six different teams. He re-signed with the Denver Nuggets earlier this month, so it appears he is going to stick around there — at least for now.

Rivers has had a busy enough offseason with his recent engagement to his model girlfriend. He probably doesn’t want to relocate again.

Kyrie Irving’s Nets teammate convincing him to get vaccine?

Kyrie Irving

One of Kyrie Irving’s teammates on the Brooklyn Nets may influence the guard to change his mind regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.

Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo! Sports reported this week that league sources believe Irving will end up getting the COVID-19 vaccine, citing the influence of close friend and teammate Kevin Durant.

For the time being, the seven-time All-Star Irving sounds very much like a vaccine skeptic. He was not able to attend Nets’ media day this week due to health and safety protocols, as New York City does not allow unvaccinated individuals to attend certain indoor events. Irving has also recently been showing support for anti-vaccine sentiments.

Durant has been working overtime lately in standing up for Irving. He may end up being the one to convince his Nets co-star to finally get vaccinated.

Report: Another Lakers player has signed with Klutch Sports

Rich Paul

Rich Paul is assembling quite the army of Klutch Sports clients on the Los Angeles Lakers.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported on Tuesday that another Lakers player has signed with Klutch — new guard Kendrick Nunn.

Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis are Klutch’s two most famous clients. Young swingman Talen-Horton Tucker is also on the Klutch roster. Additionally, the Lakers had two other Klutch players last season in Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, both of whom were traded to the Washington Wizards as part of the Russell Westbrook deal.

For Nunn, he averaged 14.6 points and 2.6 assists per game last year for the Miami Heat. He signed a two-year, $10.25 million contract with the Lakers this summer but can become a free agent next summer by turning down his player option for the second year of the deal. There has been some negative publicity lately about Klutch’s handling of their non-superstar clients. But Nunn appears to be unfazed as he enters his first season with the Lakers.
