USC LB Porter Gustin lucky refs missed his targeting hit
USC linebacker Porter Gustin was lucky that the referees during Friday’s game against Washington State missed a targeting hit of his in the second half.
Gustin was seen nailing Cougars quarterback Gardner Minshew in the head/neck area after Minshew attempted a pass late in the fourth quarter of the game.

Gustin was not called for a penalty even though his type of hit is the definition of targeting.
Gustin actually sat out the first half of the game as punishment for targeting Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger last week. He was lucky to escape penalty in this instance and needs to change his game to avoid such hits.
