New Zealand runner Kim Allan runs 310 miles without sleeping

New-Zealand-Spinal-TrustWould somebody mind getting get Kim Allan some fresh linens, a fluffy pillow and a nice down comforter? The New Zealand ultra-marathoner could probably use a little rest after she ran 310 miles in four days without sleeping.

On Sunday evening, Allan broke the previous women’s world record of 486 sleepless kilometers when she ran a total of 500 sleepless kilometers (310 miles) in a four-day span. In the process, she raised more than $7,000 for the New Zealand Spinal Trust and has crept closer to her goal of $8,000.

“It’s all a bit surreal at the moment,” Allan told The New Zealand Herald. “I’m going through some of the Facebook things on my page and when you see posts about a New Zealand woman beating the world record, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s me they’re talking about.'”

Unfortunately, Allan’s run will not be recognized as a Guinness World Record because she was not monitored by any Guinness officials. Still, her support staff documented her entire journey and she knows she is the world record holder — even if it’s unofficial.

“It would be very hard for people to say that it didn’t happen or that I slept or I missed a lap because there was always people there,” the mother of four said.

We’re certainly not going to doubt you, Kim. Anyone who has seen the exhaustion on the face of a runner who has just completed a 26.2-mile marathon can only imagine the type of stamina it takes to run 310 miles without sleeping. It’s something most of us can’t even fathom. Allan has swollen feet and ankles and toes that are covered in blisters, but she hardly complained. How is that possible? We have no idea.
