Agent praises Earl Thomas for not screwing Seahawks out of money

Earl Thomas

Earl Thomas finally reported to the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday following a lengthy holdout, and the agent for the star defensive back is praising him for not sticking it to the team.

As agent David Mulugheta pointed out, Thomas could have manipulated his situation so that he would collect his $500,000 game check for Week 1 without having to play. If Thomas had waited to report until Saturday morning, he would have been ruled ineligible to play but still been paid.

That would have been a pretty slimy move, and it seems strange for an agent to praise his client for not taking advantage of a loophole. Plus, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Seahawks decided to let Thomas off the hook for the more than $1 million in fines he racked up during his holdout, so it sounds like there was some good faith on both sides.

Thomas was hoping for a new contract or a trade, but the one team he has consistently been linked to is not willing to meet Seattle’s asking price.
