Eagles want to add Kelly green alternate uniform

Randall Cunningham Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are talking about adding their old Kelly green uniforms as an alternate jersey.

Eagles president Don Smolenski was on WIP Wednesday and talked about adding the Kelly green uniform.

“We have talked about it and there are some rules with the NFL that provides some restrictions that we’re trying to work through, but that’s going to take some time,” Smolenski told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show during an interview Wednesday. “It’s there, and it’s something that we do talk about, but until some things change at the NFL level it’s going to provide restrictions for us. It is being talked about it, yes.”

Kelly green was part of the Eagles’ color scheme from 1943-1999 according to NJ.com. The team last wore the Kelly green unis in the 2010 season opener.

Many fans prefer the traditional Kelly green unis and have even started petitions to have the team wear them more regularly. A poll on CBS Philly even indicated 85 percent of fans preferred a switch back to the Kelly green unis. I know I’m in the minority, but I actually like their current midnight green unis. Why go back to a color that makes them resemble the Jets when they can stick with these ones? A throwback option isn’t bad, but I wouldn’t do it permanently.
