Eddie Lacy is ‘very blind,’ refuses to wear goggles

Eddie-Lacy

Eddie Lacy is on an absolute tear since the Green Bay Packers came out of their Week 9 bye. Imagine the type of damage he would be doing if he could see?

So he’s not completely blind, but Lacy does wear contacts. And he’s one of those contact wearers that gets scolded by the eye doctor, as evidenced by his decision to wear a pair past their 30-day shelf life recently. As a result, Lacy has been dealing with an irritated left eye this week and wearing just one contact lens.

If Lacy’s eye isn’t better by Sunday, he said he is prepared to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with only half of his vision. Why? Because he’s not going “old school” with a pair of goggles.

“I refuse,” Lacy said Thursday, via ESPN.com. “I don’t want to say I refuse because I might, because I think it will be better than wearing contacts, but that’s kind of old school.”

Lacy said when he thinks of goggles he thinks of Eric Dickerson, who happens to be the NFL’s record holder for rushing yards in a single season.

Given how bad Lacy’s vision is, it sounds like he’ll have no choice but to wear the goggles if he can’t wear both contact lenses.

“Let’s just say I’m very blind,” he said. “I can’t see (quarterback Scott Tolzien’s) name (plate) over there.”

Maybe Lacy is better off not being able to see. If he can’t see defenders who are trying to tackle him, he’ll probably run right through them like he did with this poor Atlanta Falcons defensive back. He should be fine either way.
