Graham Gano kicked for the Washington Redskins from 2009-2011 before they cut him prior to the 2012 season. He was signed by the Carolina Panthers midway through that season and then had an awesome season this year, going 24-of-27 on field goals. On Monday, Gano said getting cut by the Redskins was one of the best things to happen to him.
It all seemed to start with a joke Gano cracked after he had a lot of people unfollow him on Twitter.
Had a lot of people unfollow me today. They must have been Redskins fans just kidding…

In truth, Gano was sending a bunch of tweets and clogging up timelines, which probably led to the unfollows. When some ‘Skins fans came after him for the jab, another person defended him. That’s when he said getting cut by the team was great for him.
@drosssports thanks Dave! Being cut by the Redskins was one of the best things that has ever happened to me,& Akers, & Suisham, & Novak…

I don’t know whether David Akers, Shaun Suisham and Nick Novak feel the same way, but this isn’t exactly an endorsement from Gano.
To be fair, Gano was a sub-par kicker with Washington and went 59-of-80 on field goals in his 2+ seasons with them. He’s gone 33-for-38 in one and a half seasons with Carolina. Does that have something to do with the Redskins? Who knows, but we know Gano seems to think switching teams was great for him. The stats would agree.
