Greg Olsen has a distinguished look for the Carolina Panthers because of his long beard. He looks like a Viking with the Nordic facial hair all long, and not everyone in his family loves it.
“My daughter’s not thrilled with it, she doesn’t love it. My boys, they don’t really care. My wife, she probably hates it,” Olsen said of his beard during Super Bowl media week.
Olsen, who is no stranger to wearing a “playoff beard,” explained how this one got started. He also says he is ready to finally get rid of it.
“I’m ready for this beard to go said to the media. I’m counting the days. I’m not usually a beard guy. For anyone who knows me, I’m usually relatively cleanshaven most times. But what happened was, all of a sudden, you start the season clean-shaved and next thing you know, as long as we’re winning, you can’t get a haircut and you can’t shave.
“Everyone knows the drill, and next thing you know, you’re 4-0, you’re 6-0, 8-0 … it’s Christmas, we haven’t lost a game yet. And at that point we’ve got a special year going, so you just roll with it.”
Olsen also rocked a playoff beard during the 2013 season. His wife was understanding and supportive then, but by now she’s had enough of it. At least for her sake, there is only one more game before it’s finally gone.
